After the study of grammar, one attains the foundation and refinement of knowledge, its pillar and backbone, the embellishment and adornment of speech, and its beauty and elegance.

A student of this discipline may initially find it difficult, causing them to move from one book to another in an attempt to understand it, or even abandon it altogether and shut the doors to it—especially if their teacher is overly talkative, burdening them with more than their mind can handle. For this reason, it is necessary to learn it gradually, beginning with a concise text that the beginner reads with a teacher who can unlock its complexities, clarify its ambiguities, and explain its examples and illustrations.

Among the beneficial introductory texts is Taʿlīm al-Ṣighār wa Shudhūr al-Naḍārah, authored by Mukhtār ibn Būnā al-Jakanī al-Shinqīṭī (may Allah have mercy on him). The author is regarded as one of the most prominent grammarians in the land of Shinqīṭ, as he revived the study of grammar after its decline, benefiting people through his work, and his writings were widely accepted.
